Deanna’s Summer Classics!

This is a playlist of my summertime favorites – songs that have heated up my summers through the years. Quite a few of the songs are those from recent years, but all in all it’s a playlist that is sure to make the heat rise! :)

So without further ado, here is: Deanna’s Summer Classics!

summerclassics

01 Destination Calabria (Original Radio Edit) – Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Waters
I first heard this in 2007 and it has become my favorite summer song. This is like my summer anthem! It makes me think of going to the beach. :)

02 Delius (Song Of Summer) – Kate Bush
I think I must have first listened to this song a few years ago. It’s got a wonderfully hazy, sleepy feeling, like you might feel on a summer evening.

03 Money To Burn – Richard Ashcroft
A feel-good sing-along kind of track! I love those horns that pop up every so often!

04 Summer Calling (Radio Edit) – Andain
This one makes me think of summer nights, full of fireflies and yummy smells from cookouts!

05 Anyway You Choose To Give It – The Black Ghosts
This is from last year, but it really made an impression on me! I remember listening to it at the beach last year and loving the fast-paced beats.

06 How Bizarre (Radio Mix) – OMC
A classic one-hit wonder! I loved this song back during a summer in the mid-90s and I always make sure to give it a spin during the summer to bring back memories of being young(er) (I was probably around 10 or 11!) and stupid(er)!

07 Chariots Of Fire (Credheadz Remix Radio Edit) – BWO
A couple of years ago I found myself listening to this at the beach on repeat. This remix takes the original pure pop track and beefs it up, making it into a rather epic kinda thing.

08 Everytime We Touch (Radio Mix) – Cascada
Cheesy old song it may be – but it makes me smile! :)

09 Closer to Your Heart – Clannad
A lot of Clannad songs remind of the summer, because I started listening to them many summers back. I chose this one because it’s fun and bouncy!

10 Makat Hom [i la dirla da da] – Dana International
I started listening to Dana a few summers back too, and this one is a lot of fun and very summery!

11 Sunrise – Dannii Minogue
I loved this track from The Hits & Beyond, and it reminds me of the summer it came out!

12 Hot Summer Night (Radio Edit) – David Tavare (Feat. 2 Eivissa)
A relatively new track with a great hook and breezy production.

13 Jesus Doesn’t Love Me – Dragonette
Not really summery, technically, but I always associate it with summer because that’s when I first heard it! A fun electro-pop ditty with sinfully good lyrics! ;)

14 Crickets Sing for Anamaria – Emma Bunton
A perfect song for “summertime, when all the crickets sing”!

15 Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (Lenny B Short Term Memory) – Fall Out Boy
I listened to this and the BWO track a lot during that summer, despite not being a Fall Out Boy fan. I am a big fan of remixes, though, and this mix really has a lot of attitude!

16 Trippin’ Me Up (1st Demo Version) – Kylie Minogue
It’s not an officially released song, but it easily could have been – it’s fantastic!

17 Summertime – Geri Halliwell
Rather sexy, actually, and beautifully put together. I really like the guitars.

18 The Way – Fastball
If you listen to the lyrics, it’s a sad song. But if you just focus on the cool chorus, you’ll turn that frown upside down!

19 Long Hot Summer – Girls Aloud
Not my favorite Girls Aloud song, but it specifically mentions summer and I just had to include the Girls in this playlist!

20 From Paris to Berlin – Infernal
Oh man, what a scorcher! I absolutely LOVED and still adore this track. Memory time: I was shocked a few summers ago to hear this song on the boardwalk as my family and I left the nut house in Cape May – Morrow’s Nut House, that is! :D I had no idea the Nut House was that hip!

21 Ray of Light – Madonna
A really great, hyperactive song!

22 Faster Kill Pussycat – Paul Oakenfold ft. Brittany Murphy
Listened to this a few years back and loved it. I can’t believe Brittany Murphy, who voices Luanne on King Of The Hill (great show, btw!), did the vocals on this!

23 Umbrella (The Lindbergh Palace Radio Edit) – Rihanna
You couldn’t get away from this song a few summers ago, and why would you want to? This remix brings the song fully into the pop realm.

24 Cry For You (Radio Mix) – September
Ah, what a cool song. That cry of “you’ll never see me again!” is positively anthemic!

25 Kayitz (summer) – Ofra Haza
Hebrew for “summer,” “Kayitz” is a cute little ditty that you’ll love, even if, like me, you don’t speak Hebrew!

26 Tattva – Kula Shaker
Have yourself a psychedelic summer with this hippy-dippy tune!

27 Saturday Night Forever – Pet Shop Boys
An ode to the carefree joys of Saturday nights! Saturday nights in the summer are always worthy of celebration.

28 Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer – Nat King Cole
A absolute classic. It’s just not summer if I don’t listen to this! :D

I’ll be posting what I’ve got so far on my Summer 2009 playlist once I’ve got more songs than the few I have now! :)

Summer Playlist 2008

This is a little late, but hey – summer tunes are good for brightening a chilly October day! :) Here is my complete Songs of Summer 2008 playlist! A last-minute addition to the list was “Dégénération” by Mylène Farmer, which I started digging toward the end of summer. I think my two favorite songs of the summer were “Love Is Noise (Radio Edit)” by The Verve and “Disturbia (Main Radio Edit)” by Rihanna.

  1. MadonnaGive It 2 Me (Original Video Edit)
Love that synth bassline! This shortened version of the album track is a perfect bite-sized bit of electro-Madonna that is guaranteed to heat up your summer.

One of the best remixes to come out of the X era, this edit takes the already flawless “The One” and upgrades it for the dance floor!

A melancholy but ultimately uplifting disco tune!
  4. Crystal Waters vs. SpeakerboxDancefloor (Speakerbox Radio Edit)

  5. The VerveLove Is Noise (Radio Edit)
Sounds a bit like it could’ve been on one of Richard Ashcroft’s solo records – and to me that’s super!
  6. SeptemberCry For You (Candlelight Mix)
The radio edit of “Cry For You” was on my summer playlist last year, and this summer it returns in a piano- and string-soaked ballad. A beautiful way to cool down on a hot summer day!
  7. Monica NaranjoEuropa (Radio Edit)
This edit scraps the awesome operatic opening but the song works just as well without it. Can’t get enough of this one!
  8. The Pussycat DollsWhen I Grow Up (Main Mix)
I never used to like The Pussycat Dolls, but I’m hooked on this song! A great club banger that I can just bet will be played on the boardwalk at the beach.
  9. Kate RyanElla Elle L’a
Fab synths and fantastic vocals make this an irresistible dance track!

    Ultra-catchy and just plain great!

This was also on my summer playlist of 2007, but I think this will become an annual summer anthem for me. LOVE this song!
  15. Kula ShakerTattva (Lucky 13 Mix)
Another song that was on my 2007 summer playlist, but this time it’s this trippy, largely instrumental remix!
  16. RihannaDisturbia (Main Radio Edit)
This has become one of my fave songs of the summer – thanks to Aaron of FABTASTIC! Music for suggesting that I add it to my playlist! :D
  17. Ofra HazaTaw Shee
An updated version of one of Ofra’s most energetic tracks!
  18. Pop LeviDita Dimone
    Cool, boogie-down-worthy funk!

What’s on your summer playlist right now? :D Cheery bye!

Deanna’s Songs of Summer 2007!

I’ve made playlists of my “songs of summer” for quite a few summers now, and I was inspired by Jennifer’s recent “Sounds of Summer 2007” playlist post (over at her excellent Music Boutique!) to put my Summer 2007 playlist online. Here we go! :)
  1. Kate Bush – Delius (Song Of Summer)
To start the summer off right, you gotta go with Kate! From her 1980 Never For Ever album, this is an airy, light song that might bring to mind a lazy day at the beach.
  2. Girls Aloud – Sexy! No No No (Original Radio Edit)
The Girls’ newest single and quite possibly my favorite new song of the summer! A melancholy vocoded intro leads into some grinding guitars and a heavy drumbeat – and a catchy chorus that you can’t help but sing along with! “Hell yeah!”

  3. Fall Out Boy – Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (Lenny B Short Term Memory)
I’m not a Fall Out Boy fan, but I heard this mix on the radio and loved it. Fantastic pulsing synths and a driving beat make this an energetic summer anthem!

  4. BWO – Chariots Of Fire (Credheadz Remix Radio Edit)
A nice, uplifting pop track is taken into epic territory with this great remix.

  5. September – Cry For You (Radio Mix)
I’ve just started listening to September and I love her tunes! ‘Cry For You’ and its good old-fashioned disco beats and synths got stuck in my head many times this summer.

  6. Dana International – Love Boy (Radio Edit)
Speaking of disco – Dana’s comeback single is chock full of modern boogie-oogie goodness!

  7. Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Waters – Destination Calabria (Original Radio Edit)
Crystal Waters is great and it’s wonderful to hear her distinctive vocals again on a tune made for having fun at the beach! “Follow me and let’s go!”

  8. Rihanna – Umbrella (The Lindbergh Palace Radio Edit)
One of the biggest songs of the summer gets a fabulous synth and string soaked (geddit?) remix courtesy of The Lindbergh Palace!

  9. Lisa Scott-Lee – Lately
A fun, upbeat dance track that’s perfect listening on a hot summer night!

  10. Kula Shaker – Tattva
I’ve just gotten into Kula Shaker and ‘Tattva’ is an excellent summery combo of pop and the “mystic East”!

  11. Candie Payne – I Wish I Could Have Loved You More
It’s the 60s all over again with this song! Ideal for a swinging summer party or chilling under the summer stars.

  12. Dragonette – Jesus Doesn’t Love Me
An electro-pop-rocker about “drugs, sex, rock and roll” – what more could you ask for during a long, hot summer? ;)

  13. Andain – Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Radio Mix)
A lovely, low-key trance track from a few years back. It mixes acoustic elements with trance music sensibilities – cool!

  14. Richard Ashcroft – Break The Night With Colour
I’m gonna get deep for a moment: I’ve loved this song since its release in 2006, but its lyrics had extra meaning for me this summer as I “move ahead”, out of a difficult past few years. Deep moment over! It’s got a nifty beat and a harpsichord, so how can you not love it? :)

  15. Emmy Rossum – Slow Me Down
Up until I heard this tune, I knew nothing about Emmy other than that she was in the movie version of Phantom Of The Opera, and I didn’t even see that! But after hearing this song and the other two on her iTunes EP, I’m gonna make sure to listen out for her upcoming debut album! Obvious influences are Imogen Heap and Enya, but it sounds entirely new and fresh. Nice!

  16. Roisin Murphy – Overpowered (Radio Edit)
Roisin has a fantastically striking voice and coupled with a thick electro bassline and slick beats, you have a winning formula!

  17. Billie Ray Martin – Undisco Me (Radio Edit)
BRM’s latest single is an out of this world, ‘I Feel Love’-inspired trance tune!

  18. Kylie Minogue – Lose Control
One of the new album demo tracks that leaked toward the beginning of the season, this hypnotic song has the potential to be a classic Kylie tune!

  19. Maroon 5 – Makes Me Wonder (Album Version)
    A fun and funky groove!

  20. Justin Timberlake – Lovestoned (Justice Remix)
A very cool, string-laden remix of one of FutureSex/LoveSounds‘ best tracks.

  21. [BONUS] Nat King Cole – Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer
Why is this a “bonus”? Because it’s timeless and isn’t just a song of Summer 2007, it’s simply a perennial Song of Summer! :)

V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N in the summer sun!

We’re gonna grab a bite at the pizza stand,
Write love letters in the sand.
We’re on vacation, and the world is ours.
V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N under summer stars.
– Vacation by Connie Francis

I’ll be going on vacation from August 6 – 11, so I won’t be able to post any updates until I get back. Keep enjoying these Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer! :)
