Cool artists I stumbled upon

While browsing around CD Baby and iTunes, I came across a few neat musicians that I’d never heard of before. This isn’t a download post (sorry!) – it’s a ‘Check these artists out if you like good music!’ post. :)

  • JR‘s sound is described as a head-on collision between Kate Bush and Jeff Buckley, though I hear a bit of Jewel and Tori Amos in her vocals too. Mainly piano-based, her songs have a tender, intimate quality, that makes you feel like she’s personally confiding in you.
  • Lo Polidoro‘s debut album features her French and world folk stylings, beautifully blended into a unique sound. Her lovely vocals (in English and French) are supported by a band that includes guitars, accordions, and strings.
  • Melanie Joy has a great, fresh pop album out now with songs that are perfect for the summer season. Strings, guitars, drums, and Melanie’s own piano playing back her distinctive vocals.
  • Saving the best for last here: Tara Busch has a nifty sound that mixes electronica, pop, and rock with clever lyrics and expressive vocals. Her album Pilfershire Lane has touches of David Bowie and The Beatles, but the end result is something quite unique. Definitely worth checking out.

You can find all of these artists on iTunes, so go take a peek! :)
